Softball drops final two games of UT tournament

Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team dropped its final two games of the University of Texas tournament, falling to Maryland, 3-1 on Saturday night, followed by an 18-2 loss to No. 6 Texas Sunday afternoon in Austin, Texas.

Game Three  vs. Maryland
- Freshman Alexandria Torres led off with a walk in the bottom of the 1st inning, followed by a single from Ashleigh Sgambelluri through the right side of the defense to put two on with no outs.
- Sydney Hoyt then laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved both runners into scoring position at second and third base. Daisy Gonzalez followed and drew the second walk of the inning to load the bases.
- Hayle Morse put the Blue and Green on the board in the next at bat, recording her first career hit and RBI with a line drive back up the middle that brought Torres home from third. The Maryland defense was able to get out of the bases loaded jam by inducing a line out double play. The Islanders held a 1-0 lead entering the top of the 2nd inning.
- The game remained a pitcher's dual for the next four innings, as both team's combined for a total of three hits during that span.
- The Terrapins grabbed the lead in the top of the 6th with a two-RBI double to left field. Maryland then added their third run in the top of the 7th inning.
- The Islanders were unable to rally in the bottom of the 7th, as Maryland came away with a 3-1 victory.
- Hoyt got the start for the Islanders, pitching six innings and giving up four hits and two earned runs. Hoyt also retired 13 batters which included five K's.
- Sophomore Jenika Lombrana came in to relief pitch, throwing one complete inning and allowing two hits and one earned run. She also recorded two strikeouts.
- Morse led the Islanders offense with two hits in three at bats, while Tiler Noyola and Sgambelluri each collected a hit.

Game Four vs. No. 6 Texas
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi got out to a solid start in the top of the 1st inning, as Torres led off with a single to left field. After a wild pitch that moved Torres up to second, Sgambelluri drew a seven pitch walk to put two on and with no outs, followed by a single to left field from Gonzalez to load the bases.
- Hoyt then stepped to the plate and grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home Torres from third. The Longhorns retired the next two batters to keep the Islanders lead to 1-0.
- Texas responded instantly in the next half inning with three runs in the bottom of the 1st followed by six more in the bottom of the 2nd, taking a 9-1 lead over the Blue and Green.
- A&M-Corpus Christi scored its second and final run of the day in the top of the 3rd, courtesy of an RBI-single from Hoyt that brought Sgambelluri around from second to score.
- Leading 9-2 after 2 1/2 innings, Texas padded its lead with four more runs in the bottom of the 3rd and five in the bottom of the 4th, making the final score 19-2 in favor of UT.
