Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team posted a 1-1 record on the first day of the USF tournament on Friday in Tampa, Fla.
- The Islanders defeated Syracuse in their morning game, 7-3, before being edged by the host Bulls, 5-4 in the night cap.
- The Blue and Green will play two more games tomorrow, one of which will be against Rutgers University at 8:00 a.m. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's other opponent will be determined once the seedings for day two have been finalized.
Game One vs. Syracuse
- The Islanders scored a season high seven runs in the tourney opener against Syracuse, collecting one run in the 2nd, three in the 3rd, one in the 4th and two in the 5th.
- Freshman third baseman
Haley Morse led the A&M-Corpus Christi offense, batting three-for-three with three RBI including a double. Fellow freshman
Alexandria Torres collected two hits which also included a double and two runs scored while her sister,
Gabriella Torres, also picked up an RBI and drew a walk.

Sydney Hoyt continues to swing a nice bat in her freshman campaign, picking up a hit on a two-run home run.
- Sophomore
Jenika Lombrana got the start in the circle, pitching another complete game and giving up only three hits and two earned runs. She also collected four strikeouts.
Game Two vs. South Florida
- Against host school South Florida, A&M-Corpus Christi jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning. After the trio of
Daisy Gonzalez,
Samantha Gaona and
Sammi Thomas drew back-to-back-to-back walks to load the bases, leadoff hitter
Tiare Lee stepped into the batter's box and crushed her first career home run to clear the bases.
- The pitching staff for the Blue and Green held the Bulls scoreless for the next three innings, before USF rallied for five runs in the bottom of th 6th inning to take a 5-4 lead.
- The Islanders could not respond in the final half inning, as South Florida edged Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
- Lee led the offense with two hits and all four RBI, while
Alyssa Miller and
Sammi Thomas each recorded a hit.
Alexandria Torres also drew two walks in both of her at bats.
- Senior pitcher
Kandace Johnson started game two for the Islanders, tossing 5.2 innings and giving up four runs on five hits and two walks. She once again tied her career high with seven strikeouts for the third consecutive game.
