CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program is out for vengeance in the South Texas Showdown rematch against UTRGV at 7 p.m. Thursday at the American Bank Center.
The showdown, an all-sports competition between A&M-Corpus Christi (1-3) and UTRGV (3-2), is presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. As an institution, the Islanders lead the series 3-1.
A&M-Corpus Christi dropped a hard-fought 61-58 defeat at UTRGV in the first meeting this year on Dec. 2. The Islanders trailed by 12 mid-way through the second half when they came all the way back to tie it with under four minutes remaining, but the Vaqueros were able to hang on down the stretch. Jordan Hairston scored all 14 of his points in the second half.
Senior
Perry Francois scored a career-high 15 points at UTRGV. It was his second double-figure scoring game of the year after netting 12 in the season opener against TAMIU. Francois is averaging 9.8 points and 4.0 rebounds on the season.
Junior
Rasheed Browne has made an immediate impact with the Islanders. He's averaging a team-high 11.0 points to go along with 5.8 rebounds per game.
Sophomore
Jalen White has stepped up this year and averages 8.8 points and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game. He opened the year with career-highs of 14 points.
The Vaqueros have played two games since their encounter with the Islanders. They defeated Our Lady of the Lake 91-68 before falling to Texas A&M 81-68.
A&M-Corpus Christi was supposed to have a game against Arlington Baptist on Dec. 4, but it was canceled due to ABU faced challenges meeting testing protocols for COVID-19.

- The Islanders are 199-94 all-time at home and 133-67 in the American Bank Center.
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 14-10 all-time against UTRGV and 7-5 at home. The Islanders swept the season-series over the Vaqueros last season.
- The Islanders rank second in the Southland Conference in both free throw percentage (.741) and blocks (4.0 bpg). Individually, Browne ranks sixth in the league in free throw percentage (.867), Francois is sixth in blocks (1.3 bpg).
- Wilson has won 139 games overall since arriving at The Island University and is the program's career leader in coaching victories. He surpassed Ronnie Arrow for the most victories at A&M-Corpus Christi who had 134 from 1999-07.
