CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The second installment of the South Texas Showdown will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday when the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball program hosts UTRGV at the Dugan Wellness Center.
Â
It will tip-off a four-game homestand for A&M-Corpus Christi (0-4), which just completed a three-game road trip.
Â
The Islanders will look to avenge a 58-51 defeat to the Vaqueros (2-2) after being in control for three quarters last Wednesday. A&M-Corpus Christi led by as many as 11 points in the third quarter, but UTRGV began the fourth on a 9-0 run and the Islanders could never get momentum back on their side.
Â

Giana Wright tallied a career-high 12 points and freshman
Paige Allen recorded 11 points.
Â
Westbrook averages team-highs of 14.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. She's scored in double-figures in all four games, including a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds at Kansas.
Â
Allen ranks first in the conference in steals with 3.8 per outing. She averages 10.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, and has scored in double-digits in three of four outings.
Â
The Islanders were scheduled to play a game over the weekend against St. Edward's University, but it was called off due to COVID-19 testing protocols.
Â
The Vaqueros did play an in-between game on Saturday but fell to Texas Southern 85-64. The Lady Tigers shot .438 from three-point range, compared to UTRGV's .167 mark.
Â
A&M-Corpus Christi will look to slow down Tiffany McGarity who scored a game-high 25 points in the first meeting. Amara Graham averages a team-high 13.8 points per game on the year, but was limited to seven points against the Islanders.
Â
- Tuesday's game will be part of the annual South Texas Showdown, an all-sports competition between A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV. As an institution, the Islanders lead the series 3-1. The showdown is presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union.
