Men’s Basketball Heads to San Marcos for Rematch with Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas
– Looking to avenge an earlier defeat this year, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program will travel to Texas State for a rematch Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Strahan Arena at the University Events Center.
 
The game will be nationally televised on ESPN+. It can also be heard live for free on NewsTalk K-E-Y-S 1440 AM with Steven King on the call.
 
In the first meeting between the teams on Nov. 28, Texas State (3-3) finished on top 75-63 at the American Bank Center. A relatively even game came down to shooting percentages as A&M-Corpus Christi (1-5) shot .340 from the field and .259 from 3FG, while the Bobcats posted a .542 FG% and .600 3FG%. The teams were tied in both rebounding (32-32) and turnovers (15-15).
 
Senior Myles Smith recorded 13 points, five rebounds and four steals, while junior Rasheed Browne tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Islanders have used a very balanced scoring attack this year. Senior Perry Francois averages a team-high 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, while Browne records 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Sophomore Jalen White is the team's leading rebounder and averages 8.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest.
 
In the team's last outing at No. 17 Texas Tech, senior Nolan Bertain netted a season-high 12 points and was 3-for-4 from long-range. Junior Simeon Fryer scored a career-high 10 points.
 
The Bobcats are looking to shake-off a tough 61-58 defeat to Our Lady of the Lake on Saturday – a team that the Islanders will face this upcoming Saturday. OLLU used a 23-9 run over the last nine minutes to complete a comeback.
 
Texas State has a win this year over fellow Southland Conference member Incarnate Word 72-64.
 
Mason Harrell leads the team with 14.2 points per game. He shoots .429 (9-21) from 3FG and .857 (12-14) from the free throw line. Harrell finished with a game-high 18 points in the first meeting against the Islanders this year.
 
NOTES
- The Islanders are 10-9 all-time against Texas State and 5-4 on the road.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi leads the Southland Conference in blocks with 3.83 per outing. Francois has rejected eight shots and ranks top-five in the league with 1.3 per game.
 
- Browne scored 20 points in the season-opening victory over Texas A&M-International. It's the most by an Islander in a single-game this year.
 
- Head coach Willis Wilson has won 139 games overall since arriving at The Island University and is the program's career leader in coaching victories. He surpassed Ronnie Arrow for the most victories at A&M-Corpus Christi who had 134 from 1999-07.
