LAST SEASON VS HOUSTON BAPTIST
- The Islanders and the Huskies split last year's two meetings with each team winning at home.
- In the first meeting, HBU escaped with a 73-32 victory in Houston, despite a 50-point second half from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
-
Kareem South scored 24 points for the Islanders and
Tre Gray had 12 points.
- In the second meeting, A&M-Corpus Christi knocked off HBU, 76-69, to earn a spot in the Southland Tournament on the final day of the regular season.
- South had 21 points in that contest and
Emmanuel Toney scored a career-high 20 points.
Jake Babic added 10 points with eight rebounds.
-
Jashawn Talton-Thomas nailed a pair of three pointers and finished with 19 points.
- The Huskies held a two-point lead at the break but the Islanders shot 62.5 percent in the second half to pull away for the victory.
REBOUNDS WITH ELI
- Senior
Elijah Schmidt enters this Saturday's game with 495 career rebounds.
- Should he pull down five or more boards, he would become just the seventh Islander to ever reach the 500 plateau.
- Schmidt also ranks seventh in career defensive rebounds with 331 and he is ninth in offensive rebounds with 164.
- With 55 career swats, Schmidt is just two blocked shots away from breaking into the career top-10.
THE WIN LIST
- Head coach
Willis Wilson has won 133 games since arriving on the Island and is on pace to become the program's all-time win leader this season.
- Wilson needs just one more win to tie Ronnie Arrow at 134 victories.
- Arrow was the first head coach in program history, coaching from 1999-07.
SOUTHLAND ONLY LEADERS
- In conference only games,
Myles Smith enters Saturday's contest ranked No. 3 in free throw percentage (86.0), No. 7 in assists (3.64), No. 14 in assist to turnover ration (1.14) and No. 20 in scoring (12.36).
-
Tony Lewis ranks No. 14 in Southland only rebounding at 6.27 per game.
- In conference, the Islanders are allowing just 67.18 points per contest, the second lowest mark behind SFA at 67.00.
- A&M-Corpus Christi's defense has also been solid in conference play, allowing opponents to shoot a league-low 29.6 percent from beyond the arc and 40.1 percent from the field, the second lowest mark in the league.
