Soccer sets scoring record in home win

Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi soccer team defeated Texas Southern University on Friday night, 5-0, at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium in Corpus Christi, Texas. 
- With the win, the Islanders move to 1-3 on the season, while Texas Southern moves to 1-4. 
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is now 3-0 all-time against the Tigers.  
- The five Islander goals set a program record for most goals in a game. The previous mark was four against Lamar on October 12, 2014. 
- The 5-0 margin of victory also sets a program single match record. 

Key Islander Statistics
- Both Abby Deakin and Larissa Fagundes led the Islanders with two goals each. Deakin also recorded an assist in the match. 
- Fagundes scored the first two goals of the match. In the seventh minute she took a pass from Deakin to open the scoring. 
- In the 23rd minute, Alana Mangan hit a free kick that Fagundes connected on the end of to make the score 2-0. 
- Deakin made it 3-0 in the 35th minute on a goal with an assist from Reaghan Lang
- Mariah Ramon also collected a goal in the 60th minute of action, scoring unassisted. 
- Deakin capped the night with her second goal in the 71st minute. 
- As a team, the Islanders out shot the Tigers, 21-5, with A&M-Corpus Christi recording 12 shots on goal, compared to Texas Southern's one. 
- Kyleigh Hall made on save in goal for her first shut out of the year. 
- Deakin had a team high four shots, while Fagundes and Lang each had three. 
- Dana Curtis had two shots with one coming on goal. 
- The Islanders defensive line consisted of Shayla Spearman, Megan Dodd, Samantha Palomino, Mangan, Jaedyn Johnson and Maddie Janolo
- The two individual goals by Deakin and Fagundes tied a single-game record that had been accomplished three times prior. 
- This was the 10th shutout under Craig Shaw since he took over in 2017.
