Baseball splits Sunday doubleheader at McNeese

Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi baseball team split a Sunday doubleheader against McNeese State University at Joe Miller Ballpark in Lake Charles, La.
- The Islanders won the first game 2-0 on a combined shutout but fell in the second game, 8-4.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is now 30-24 overall and 14-16 in Southland play. The Cowboys 29-23 overall and 14-13 in league action.
- The Islanders have now won 30 total games in back-to-back seasons.
Game One Key Statistics
- The Islanders scored once in the fifth and once in the eighth.
- Dustin Lacaze went 7.0 innings, allowing just two hits while striking out nine. He retired the first eight batters of the game and 16 of the first 17 he faced. The right hander set the Cowboys down in order in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings.
- After Lacaze exited after the seventh, David Worrell worked two scoreless innings to complete the combined shutout. Worrell struck out four batters and allowed just two hits.
- Luke Marbach was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. He also stole a base.
- Nick Anderson went 1-for-3 with a walk.
- Itchy Burts was 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Game One Key Innings
5th  |  Marbach led off the fifth with a single to left and stole second. Trevor Beard laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Marbach up to third. After Rivera-Chijin was hit by a pitch, Cole Fluta grounded out to third, allowing Marbach to score the game's first run.

8th  |  In the eighth, Burts led off with a single and promptly stole second. He tagged and moved up to third on a flyout. Williams hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Burts to make it 2-0 Islanders.
Game Two Key Statistics
- The Islanders scored two in the third, one in the fourth and one in the eighth.
- Burts was 3-for-5 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI
- Enrique Sanchez Jr. was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. He hit a sacrifice fly in the third.
- Fluta was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. He also drew a walk.
- Osborn was 1-for-3 with an RBI double in the fourth. He also reached on a walk.
- Nick Anderson drew a pair of walks and came around to score twice.
- Marbach was 1-for-3 with a walk.
- Williams went 1-for-5.
- Mason Hopkins worked the first two innings of the ballgame. He did not give up a run while allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
- Tyler Miller worked 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed one run on two hits. He struck out one and did not walk a hitter.
- Zach Rumfield worked a scoreless seventh inning, allowing one hit.

Game Two Key Innings
3rd  |  With one down in the third, Fluta singled and scored on a Burts triple to right to make it 1-0. Sanchez Jr. hit a sacrifice fly in the next at bat to right, scoring Burts from third.

4th  |  Anderson's led off the fourth with a walk and Marbach hit a bunt single to put two runners on. After a groundout, both runners moved up to second and third. Osborn hit a double to right to drive in Anderson to make it 3-0 Islanders.

8th  |  Anderson and Marbach drew back-to-back walks to start the eighth. After an out, Osborn drew a walk to load the bases. A flyout put Fluta at the plate with two down and the bases loaded. Fluta drew a seven-pitch walk to force in Anderson to give A&M-Corpus Christi a 4-3 lead.
