Softball makes late push, falls twice on Friday

Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi softball team fell to Southeastern Louisiana in a pair of Friday Southland games on Friday in Hammond, La.
- The Islanders are now 1-7 in Southland play while the Lions improve to 6-2 in league play.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi lost the first game, 8-0, and came up just short in a late rally in game two, 4-3.
- Ashley Moss reached base four times on Friday, picking up a pair of hits and drawing two walks.

Game One Islander Statistics
- Ashley Moss led off the game with a single.
- Emilee Baker got a single in the top of the fourth.
- Keagan Helson singled in the top of the fifth.
- Samantha Burke reached on a walk in the fifth inning.
- Ashleigh Sgambelluri was hit by a pitch in the second inning.
- Ashley Smith pitched the final two innings of the game. She allowed one hit and two unearned runs.

Game Two Islander Statistics
- The Islanders got three runs on five hits with three errors. The Lions scored four runs on six hits with one error.
- Southeastern Louisiana scored once in the first, twice in the third and once in the fifth. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi got one in the sixth and two in the seventh.
- Moss led off the sixth with an infield single to third on a bunt. Emily Vela reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second. After a flyout, Kennedy Johnson hit an RBI single to center to drive in Vela.
- In the seventh. Whitney Wendel walked on four-straight pitches to lead off. Kandace Johnson pinch hit for Sgambelluri and singled to left. Sgambelluri came back in to run for Johnson. After an out, Alexis Ruel drew a walk to load the bases, prompting a pitching change. Moss drew a walk to force in Wendel for A&M-Corpus Christi's second run. Vela reached on a fielder's choice on a grounder to third, allowing Sgambelluri to score making it a 4-3 game.
- Ruel set down five straight between the second and third innings and also put the Lions down in order in the sixth. She went the full 6.0 innings, allowing just two earned runs. She struck out three and walked three.
- Moss went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks.
- Kennedy Johnson went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
- Wendel was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk.
- Baker was 1-for-3 in the second game.
- Kandace Johnson was 1-for-1.
- Vela went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
- Sammi Thomas and Ruel each reached on walks.
