Men's Basketball tops Incarnate Word for Homecoming win

Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi men's basketball program managed to surmount a resilient Incarnate Word squad in Saturday's Homecoming matchup, defeating the Cardinals by a final 70-61 mark.
- The Islanders improve to 10-13 overall and 5-5 in Southland Conference action while the Cardinals fall to 6-17 overall and 2-8 in league play.
- Junior Kareem South composed another brilliant performance, leading the team with a career-high 25 points along with two assists and one steal. The guard completed three and-one plays, including one after knocking down a three-pointer.
- Three fellow teammates also worked their way into double figures, including junior Jashawn Talton (13), junior Elijah Schmidt (10) and senior Emmanuel Toney (10). The former buoyed the team on the boards (5) while the latter dished out a team-best five assists.

- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi shot 59.0 percent (23-for-39) from the field for the game, going 11-of-21 in the first half (52.4 percent) and 12-of-18 in the second half (66.7 percent).
- The Islanders aced 8-of-15 beyond the arc for the game (53.3 percent) and posted 16-of-21 from the charity stripe (76.2 percent).
- The Cardinals slightly edged the A&M-Corpus Christi on rebounds, grabbing 24 to the Islanders' 21.
- While A&M-Corpus Christi only undercut Incarnate Word on turnovers by two (15-to-17), the Islanders were able to capitalize on those Cardinal mistakes to much larger degree, scoring 28 points to UIW's 13 on the night.
- The Islanders outscored the Cardinals in both halves, initially boasting a six-point advantage in the first (34-to-28) before edging the Cardinals by just one in the second (34-to-33).
- Junior Kyle Brown earned the third start of his career and his second this season, posting four points with two assists and three steals across 23 minutes of action.
- Off the bench, sophomore Tre Gray managed to generate some solid offense, knocking down two field goals and earning three free throws for a total of eight points.

South has now has reached double figures 16 times this season and 50 times in his career ... Saturday marked his 81st career start ... Toney has now scored in double figures seven times this season.
