Men's Basketball jumps back on the road to battle UNO

New Orleans, La. -- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi men's basketball program jets off to New Orleans, La., to face off against UNO on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 4:15 p.m. Fans can also listen to the audio broadcast live on KEYS 1440 AM or watch the webstream on the UNO website.

HISTORY WITH UNO (PRIVATEERS LEAD 8-6)
- This will be the 15th meeting between the two schools.
- All time, the Islanders are 3-3 in Corpus Christi and 2-3 in New Orleans, La.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is averaging 67.1 points per game in the series while holding the Privateers to 67.7.
- Up until this year's victory over UNO, the Privateers owned a five-game win streak over the Islanders.

THIS YEAR'S FIRST MEETING
- The Islanders powered past the Privateers for a 76-61 victory at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
- A&M-Corpus Christi shot 53.7 percent from the field (29-for-54) and held a 30-29 rebound advantage over UNO.
- The Islanders held a 38-32 advantage in points in the paint, 8-5 in second chance points, 12-6 in fast break points and the bench outscored New Orleans, 35-20.
- For the game, A&M-Corpus Christi hit 12-of-17 free throws (70.6 percent).
- The Privateers hit just 1-of-10 three point attempts (10.0 percent) and committed 21 turnovers.
- Tre Gray scored in double figures, netting 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting. He hit all three of his long range attempts, dished out five assists and had two steals in a career-high 26 minutes.
- Irshaad Hunte hit 6-of-7 shots and finished with 14 points and three rebounds. He also blocked two shots in 13 minutes of action.
- Jashawn Talton scored 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting. He grabbed three rebounds and knocked down 4-of-5 free throws.
- The Islanders outscored UNO, 31-28, at halftime and 45-33 in the second half.

PRIVATEERS NOTABLES
- New Orleans is a near-perfect 10-2 this season at home in Lakefront Arena.
- UNO sits at 8-4 in Southland play, falling this past Saturday to rival Nicholls State after the Colonels drilled a three-pointer with just under five seconds remaining.
- Ezekiel Charles leads the Privateers behind his 12.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, dishing out 1.7 assists as well.
- Bryson Robinson serves as the only other Privateers to average in double figures, posting 10.6 points per game.
- Both Gerrale Gates and Damion Rosser average 9.0 points per team, tied for third-best on the team.
- Scott Plaisance Jr. has tallied a team-best 23 blocks this season while averaging 8.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

ISLANDERS LAST TIME OUT
- Sam Houston State edged the Islanders by a one-point margin, sinking a free throw with less than four seconds remaining to seal the 70-69 victory.
- Junior Jashawn Talton posted a career-high 18 points in the loss as the forward nearly pulled down a double-double, grabbing a team-best eight rebounds with one assist, one block and one steal. Senior Emmanuel Toney joined Talton as the only other Islander in double-figures, dropping 12 points with four assists and two rebounds.
- Three fellow teammates nearly cracked the double-digit barrier, as juniors Kareem South and Tony Lewis picked up nine and eight points, respectively, while sophomore Tre Gray dropped eight as well. The former also managed to dish out a team-best seven assists, a career-high.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi shot 51.7 percent (27-for-52) from the field for the game, going 12-of-25 in the first half (48.0 percent) and 15-of-27 in the second half (55.6 percent).
- The Islanders drilled 9-of-17 beyond the arc for the game (52.9 percent) and while earning just 6-of-9 at the charity stripe (66.7 percent).
- A&M-Corpus Christi slightly edged the Bearkats on the boards, grabbing 29 to the their 27.
- The Islanders outworked SHSU in the paint, notching 28 to the Bearkats' 24, and also managed to own a 6-0 point advantage on fast breaks.
- Initially, A&M-Corpus Christi entered the half up by one (29-to-28) following a tremendous athletic play from Gray, but a staunch response from Sam Houston State in the second allowed the Bearkats to edge the Islanders on the final box score (42-to-40)
- Junior Kyle Brown picked up his third consecutive start at point guard, knocking down five points with one assist and one steal across 19 minutes of action.
