Game Recap: Soccer |

Soccer Outpaces Nicholls State Behind Late Goal, 2-1

Story Headlines
- Despite anticipated weather concerns forcing kickoff three and a half hours earlier than initially scheduled, the Islanders' soccer program (5-3-2, 2-1-1 Southland) managed to outlast Nicholls State (2-8-0, 0-3-0 Southland) by a 2-1 margin, jumping back into the win column just two days after falling at Southeastern Louisiana.
- Freshman Dana Curtis performed late-match heroics for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, shocking the Colonels with less than three minutes remaining regulation for her first goal of the season. Junior Shayla Spearman also earned her first points of the year on the play, setting up the freshman forward with a cross from the left side of the box.
- Senior goalkeeper Abbie Flax moved back into the starting role between the pipes, surrendering one goal across 90 minutes.
- The Islanders captured the initial lead of the match on a early second-half penalty kick from sophomore Abby Deakin, her second of the year. With the goal, the midfielder moves into a tie atop the team leaderboard in the category, joining fellow sophomores Mariah Ramon and Addison Urbanus.

Key Islander Statistics
- In similar fashion to what has become the norm for the Islanders this season, head coach Craig Shaw orchestrated yet another game of sweltering offensive pressure. Statistically, this led to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi monopolizing control of nearly every notable category, outpacing Nicholls State in shots (19-6), shots on goal (10-3) and corner kicks (6-3).
- For the first time this season, shooting was dominated by a smaller group of Islanders as four teammates -- sophomores Kayla Gove, Abby Deakin and Addison Urbanus, along with freshman Reaghan Lang -- each compiled three shots on the day. Curtis and sophomore Emily Keoughan ranked second on the squad, notching two apiece.
- Due to the Islanders strong offensive presence, the Colonels only managed to threaten Flax on few occasions, leading to just one save for the senior.
- Three Islanders competed for the entirety of the 90-minute match, including Flax and a pair of defenders -- sophomore Megan Dodd and freshman Marina Davidson.

Up Next
- The Islanders close out their three-game road trip Friday evening at Abilene Christian before returning for a Sunday afternoon make-up match against Incarnate Word. Fans can find the 2018 promotional schedule HERE. Sunday's match will be broadcasted live on the Islanders Digital Network, powered by AEP Texas.
