Soccer Rallies to 2-2 Tie with UTRGV

Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi soccer squad regrouped late to force overtime and an eventual 2-2 tie with rival UT-Rio Grande Valley Sunday evening in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. Sophomore Kayla Gove guided a header past the Vaquero keeper with less than five minutes remaining in the second half, sealing the score at 2-2 for the rest of the match.
- The game served as the third in the Islanders' four-game home stand, moving up to 1-2-1 following the result.
- Fellow sophomore Mariah Ramon notched the opening goal of the match just thirteen minutes in, pressuring the UTRGV goalie into a botched save that allowed an attempt at an open net.
- Despite the close score, the Islanders dominated in nearly every offensive category, leading in total shots, shots on goal and corner kicks.

Key Islander Statistics
- Following the success of the Islanders' aggressive offensive approach against Texas State on Friday, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi continued to push the envelope in the UTRGV match. As such, the team out-hustled the Vaqueros to a 23-15 edge on total shots, a 12-4 advantage on shots on goal and a solid 11-5 difference on corner kicks. All three currently serve as season highs for the squad.
- The mounting Islander pressure forced UTRGV keeper Kinga Szemik to make a number of saves, breaking the double-digit mark with 10 on the day.
- Ramon led the way in terms of total shots for A&M-Corpus Christi, putting up four to go along with her goal. Meanwhile, Gove and sophomore Emily Keoughan each put together two shots on goal to lead the group, a team-best on the year.
- The defense staunchly quelled any Vaquero attack throughout the matchup, leaving sophomore Kyleigh Hall with just two saves on the match.
