Offensive Surge Propels Soccer at Texas Southern, 4-1

Story Headlines
- Bolstered by a strong offensive effort throughout the match, the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi soccer team (3-2-1) managed to prolong its unbeaten streak to four matches at Texas Southern (0-5-1), upending the Tigers by a 4-1 margin Sunday afternoon. Four separate athletes notched goals in the victory -- tying a school record (four goals - vs. Lamar, 2014) along the way -- as the offense posted an extremely efficient workout (11 total shots, nine on goal).
- Now sitting at 3-2-1 on the year, the win helped push the Islanders to their first time over .500 all season.
- Outside of Ramon, who totaled her second goal this season to open the game, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sported three first-time goal-scorers for the year: sophomore Megan Dodd (assist Ashley Hamilton), sophomore Abby Deakin (penalty kick) and freshman Reaghan Lang (assist Celia Hilsabeck).

Key Islander Statistics
- In similar fashion to the Islanders' past few games along their unbeaten streak, head coach Craig Shaw manufactured yet another game in which offensive pressure became the norm. Statistically, this led to the A&M-Corpus Christi dominating Texas Southern in every notable category, outpacing the Tigers in shots (11-6), shots-on-goal (9-3) and corner kicks (6-0).
- Junior captain Ashley Hamilton consistently found herself setting up goals for teammates, grabbing two in just the first 14 minutes (first goal to sophomore Mariah Ramon, second goal to sophomore Megan Dodd) as she carved out a spot on the team leaderboard (two assists ties Madeleine Lozano for first). Hamilton's two assists also ties a single-match school record with both Mariah Ramon (UTSA, 2017) and Aulona Velaj (Central Arkansas, 2015).
- The unmatched offensive effort turned out to be quite evenly distributed across the playing roster with only sophomore Siri O'Donnell surpassing one shot all game.
- Sophomore Kyleigh Hall continues to impress between the posts, grabbing two saves while allowing just one goal in the match.

Up Next
- The Islanders shift focus back to Corpus Christi for a two-match homestand, opening their Southland Conference schedule with Sam Houston State (Friday, Sept. 21) and Stephen F. Austin (Sunday, Sept. 23). Fans can find the 2018 promotional schedule HERE.
