Soccer Muscles Past Sam Houston State in OT Victory, 1-0

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- With just under 15 seconds remaining in the initial overtime period and the score knotted at 0-0, sophomore Emily Keoughan prepared a semi-rushed corner kick towards Sam Houston State's center box, aiming to connect with one of her teammates for the coveted golden goal (overtime sudden death). In dramatic fashion, fellow sophomore Addison Urbanus nailed the timing on her attempted jump over the Bearkat defenders, deflecting the game-winning goal past the keeper and in for the Islanders 1-0 victory.

With the win in hand, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (4-2-1, 1-0 Southland) surges to a number of milestones in program history, including the capture of the longest unbeaten streak (five games stretching back to Aug. 31) and the team's first-ever victory over conference foe Sam Houston State (1-7-1, 0-2 Southland).

Story Headlines
- The win also ties the program record for most consecutive victories (3), a mark set back in 2015.
- The highly-physical match saw both sides embattled throughout, resulting in a pair of yellow cards for Sam Houston State.
- Urbanus joins sophomore Mariah Ramon as the only two players with more than one goal this season, notching her second with the overtime header. Keoughan, meanwhile, earned her first points of the year with the assist on the corner kick.

Key Islander Statistics
- While the Islanders' usual level of aggression has resulted in substantially lopsided statistics the past five games, Sam Houston State managed to nearly match Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with its own offensive attack. Despite the physical play, though, the Islanders finished the game leading in all major categories, including total shots (16-12), shots on goal (7-4) and corner kicks (8-3).
- Urbanus monopolized the top spot on the offensive end for the Islanders, recording three shots and one shot on goal during the match. Five teammates also pushed their way past the usual one-shot threshold, as freshman Ashley Tuccio, junior Ashley Hamilton and sophomores Keoughan, Abby Deakin and Siri O'Donnell each tallied two shots apiece.
- Sophomore Kyleigh Hall earned her third shutout victory over the season, making four saves on the night.
- Three Islanders competed for the entirety of the nearly 100-minute match, including Hall, O'Donnell and freshman Marina Davidson.

Up Next
- The Islanders continue their Southland Conference slate Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. against Stephen F. Austin, aiming to notch a victory over the Ladyjacks for the first time in program history. Fans can find the 2018 promotional schedule HERE.
