SAN ANTONIO, Texas - In its final road midweek contest of the year, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was unable to come out ahead on UTSA, falling to the Roadrunners by a final of 14-1.
After both sides were shutout through the first two innings, the home team lit up for a four-run effort in the third, thanks in part to an Islander defensive error and a Roadrunner home run. Down 4-0, the Blue and Green pulled a run back however, with starting left fielder
Thomas Jeffries IV starting the fifth with a leadoff walk. The junior transfer would steal second during the next at bat, before catcher
Scott Balfantz sent an RBI-single to center field for his team's lone run of the evening.
Left hander
Cody LeCompte held the home team to four earned runs during his four innings of work, making his first-ever start in an Islander uniform. The southpaw junior struck out six batters over his time on the hill, while walking just two. Tuesday's contest would put an end to Lecompte's string of shutout appearances, as he had held opponents without an earned run against for five straight trips to the mound (8.1 IP) heading into San Antonio.
The Blue and Green finished their scoring in the top half of the fifth, as the Roadrunners would go on to score 10 unanswered runs over the next two frames, to end the night on a run-rule in the seventh.
- Balfantz had two of his team's five hits on the night, while adding his third extra-base hit of the season on a double in the third
- Itchy Burts continued his hitting streak to 11 straight games, registering a leadoff double in the sixth
- Enrique Sanchez Jr. and Jackson Owens would be the only other Islanders to record hits on the night, with the latter hitting for the seventh time in his last eight appearances
- This is the first time this season the Islanders have been run-ruled, inflicting the same punishment upon Houston-Victoria and Oklahoma earlier this year
