LAKE CHARLES, La.- Texas A&M Corpus Christi cracked open their fifth Southland Series of the season against McNeese State University at Cowgirl Diamond. Starting on April 6th, the Blue and Green competed in an arduous doubleheader opener against the Cowgirls losing both games 3-5 and 0-9.
GAME ONE
Quick start for McNeese State in the first competition against the Islanders, as they were able to register two runs late in the first inning. Sophomore pitcher
Kandace Johnson took the first knock on the sheet for the Blue and Green, as she slammed a homerun to left center for an RBI early in the second frame. Continuing the offensive run, Freshman infielder
Avery Ratcliff crushed a tater to left field for an RBI late in the fifth inning; leveling the score 2-2. The Islanders Freshman class were able to help take the lead against the Cowgirls as outfielder
Katrina Jackson singled to third base, scoring
Taelor Thomas an unearned run for an RBI top of the sixth inning; score now being 3-2. Attempting to hold back the Cowgirls and clinching the win, McNeese State tied the game up late in the sixth inning as Piancastelli homered to center field for an RBI. MSU regained the lead once again as A. Saldivar slammed a homerun to left field, scoring L. Brown for a pair of RBI bottom of the seventh inning. Fighting to spark their offensive flow once again, the Islanders were unfortunately held back by the Cowgirls pitching staff in the final two frames of the competition.

GAME TWO
Returning from the first competition against McNeese State, the Cowgirls pitching staff held the Blue and Green to a single hit and walk on base in their doubleheader closer. Pulling together a 9 run lead late in the third frame
, MSU closed out the second competition of the SLC Series in the fifth inning for the Islanders.
COMING UP NEXT
The Blue and Green will be closing off their fifth SLC Series against McNeese State University on April 7th at 1:00 p.m.
