KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Islanders sweep both matches 5-0 against Abilene Christian and St. Edwards in day one of the Kingsville Tournament.
New Mexico vs. Corpus Christi (3-2)
The Islanders number five pairing in
Jenna Krenek (Houston, Texas) and
Naomi Overstreet (Oakland, California) were the first of the day to take a victory; they took set one 21-19 and secured the win with a 21-15 score in set two.
Madi Fitzsimmons (Murphy, Texas) and
Demi McInnis (Cypress, Texas) followed behind winning both sets 21-13, 21-18.
Rachel Young (Frisco, Texas) and
Madison Green (Dripping Springs, Texas), the Islanders number two pairing, finished off the match securing an Islanders 3-2 victory; they fell in set one 19-21 but took set two 21-15 and set three 15-12.
Islanders number four pairing
Kayla Walker (Murrieta, California) and
Maya Daukas (Santa Monica, California) fell in both sets 19-21 and 7-21. Blue and Green's first pairing in
Selina Marolf (Bern, Switzerland) and
Abigail DeVido (Ashburn, Virginia) fought hard losing in the first set 18-21, tying things up in set two 21-14 and fell 6-15 in the third set.
TAMU-Kingsville vs. Corpus Christi (1-4)
The Islanders faced the Javelinas of Texas A&M – Kingsville for the third time this season. The Islanders were looking to take the series victory after the series being 1-1.
Islanders number two pairing in Green and Young, finished second on the day, breezed through the Javelinas taking both sets 21-19 and 21-16.
Blue and Green's fourth pairing in Walker and Daukas were the first to finish on the day, falling in the first set 14-21 and the second 16-21. Krenek and Overstreet, the Islanders fifth pairing, finished next falling 11-21 and 9-21.
Pair three, Fitzsimmons and McInnis, won set one 21-16, fell in set two 16-21 and after a close finish fell 15-17 to TAMUK. DeVido and Marolf, the Blue and Green's first pairing, closed out the day taking the first set 23-21, but fell in the last two sets 18-21,12-15.
