SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi took five podium spots on day two of the UIW Invitational this Saturday, closing out their weekend spent on the Cardinal campus.
Zhafear Ray took first in the men's high jump, on the way to tying the season-high he set at Texas Relays just a few weeks ago. The sophomore cleared a height of 2.00m at San Antonio to finish .05 meters ahead of the competition.Â
Three Islanders claimed runner up spots in their respective events, with
Logan Robinson tossing a 55.79m in the javelin. The junior's distance crushed his previous personal record by over three meters, as Robinson came within just over a meter of taking first in the event.
Kendall Rodriguez took the runner up spot in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.21, while
Sierra Pruitt's wind-adjusted time of 11.81 was good enough for silver in the 100m dash.
Rodriguez and Pruitt would claim their second top-three of performance of the afternoon in the 4x400m, as the pair combined with
Tashonna Williams and
Makalah Griffin for a third-place finish in the event (3:56.06). The men's side was successful in the relays as well, with the quartet of
Terrion Spivey,
Will Maraggia,
Rashawn Black and
James Manders finishing the 4x400m in a season-best 3:16.99.Â
Distance runner
Morgan McCutchen rounded out the Islanders' PRs on the day, posting a personal best of 2:24.71 in the 800m.
COMING UP NEXT
The Islanders take a week off before getting back to work next Saturday, competing at the Baylor-hosted Michael Johnson Classic in Waco, Texas. The Blue and Green return to the BU campus after a two-year hiatus, participating in the 2015 Baylor Invite.
