KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Islanders finish the Texas A&M – Kingsville Tournament 3-1. Corpus Christi entered Sunday coming off two straight team wins on Saturday against Tarleton State and New Orleans.
Ottawa vs. Corpus Christi (5-0)
The Islanders dominated the first match of the day against Ottawa. The first three pairings for the Islanders held the Braves to 10 points or less. The Islanders first victory was lead by the number four pairing,
Kayla Walker (Murrieta, California) and
Chloe Simon (Katy, Texas), whom took the first set 21-15 and the second set 21-18. The number five match,
Jenna Krenek (Houston, Texas) and
Naomi Overstreet (Oakland, California), was the next to finish, taking both sets with the score of 21-15.
The number one pairing
Selina Marolf (Bern, Switzerland) and
Abigail DeVido (Ashburn, Virginia) had an easy time routing Adriana Skipper and Caitlyn Cox finishing the first set 21-8 and only allowing the Braves to score four points in the second set, winning 21-4. The third pairing
Demi McInnis (Cypress, Texas) and
Madi Fitzsimmons (Murphy, Texas) continued the winning streak for the Islanders, defeating the Braves 21-10 in the first set and 21-7 in the second.
The Islanders number two pairing secured the sweep for Corpus.
Rachel Young (Frisco, Texas) and
Madison Green (Dripping Springs, Texas) defeated Kenna Hall and Liz Heit 21-8 in the first set and 21-6 in the second.
TAMUK vs. Corpus Christi (2-3)
The Islanders fell 2-3 to the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas in their second match of the day. Blue and Green's first pairing in Marolf and Devido took the first set 21-18, they fell 19-21 in the second set but won the third set 15-12. Krenek and Overstreet took home a victory for the Islanders at the number five spot. They dominated the first set 21-14, fell 14-21 in the second set and took the victory 15-8 in the final set.
Fitzsimmons and McInnis started off slow at the number three match falling 12-21 but came back to win the second set 21-19. They fell in the third set 9-15. Young and Green, the Islanders number two pairing fell in two sets, 17-21, 15-21. Islanders number four pairing Walker and Simon fought hard in both sets falling 19-21, 18-21.
