CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Hindered by a big third inning from the Sam Houston offense, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was unable to earn a decision at Chapman field this Sunday, falling to SHSU 9-0.
Despite giving up just nine hits over the entirety of the contest, the Blue and Green surrendered seven of the Bearkats' knocks in the top of the third, as the visiting side jumped to an early 7-0 advantage. Another hit and a fielding error in the fourth would push across another pair of Sam Houston runs to put things at a final nine-run difference.
Reliever
A.G. Ayala took the hill for the Islanders for the final out of the fourth, proceeding to record a career-high five strikeouts in 3.1 IP. The lefty faced just one over the minimum during his time on the mound, with a sixth-inning walk standing as the only mark against his performance
Cody LeCompte and
Zach Rumfield combined for two shutout frames to close the afternoon, as the Islander pitching staff sat down nine Bearkat batters on strikes over the course of the series finale.
- Left fielder Thomas Jeffries IV extended his on base streak to 10 straight, with a single in the fourth inning
- Luke Marbach led the Islanders with a 2-for-4 afternoon, recording one of the Blue and Green's two doubles on the day
- Harrison Dinicola's double-bagger in the third extends the first baseman's hitting streak to seven, he's reached first safely in 18 of the Islanders' 20 games this season
- Ayala and Rumfield extended their streak of scoreless appearances to six and three respectively, as neither freshman is yet to surrender an earned run in their time on the Island
