CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Islanders are coming off their first win of the season against the University of North Florida last week. They travel just up the road to Texas A&M – Kingsville to participate in the TAMUK Tournament.
The Islanders open play against Texas Southern on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. before matching up with the New Orleans Privateers in an 11:30 a.m. match later in the morning. The Blue and Green face Ottawa University and Kingsville on Sunday, March 18th at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The Blue and Green's top pairing of
Selina Marolf and
Abigail DeVido defeated North Florida's Hoff and Miller two sets to one in the North Florida Tournament to open the season this past Sunday, as the duo was named to the All-Tournament team in Jacksonville.
Madison Green and
Rachel Young fell in the first set against North Florida but came back to win the second and third set. The two were also victorious against North Carolina - Wilmington.
Madi Fitzsimmons and
Demi McInnis took the first and third set against North Florida, dropping the UNF Ospreys by a final team score 3-2.
Kayla Walker and
Chloe Simon will be the fourth pairing on the weekend, while
Jenna Krenek and
Naomi Overstreet will be the fifth pairing.
"We're very competitive in our first tournament and I'm really happy with the progress we made since the fall," Coach
Gayle Stammer said. "During our offseason we did a lot of skill work and now this semester we are focusing on the whole game and how to compete."
The Islanders will face Texas Southern and New Orleans on Friday and Coach Stammer is anxious to see the progress.
"I'm really excited to see what we do in this tournament based on what we learned in the North Florida Invitational," Coach Stammer said.

The Islanders host Texas A&M Kingsville on Friday, March 23rd at 3 p.m. at the Dugan Family Track and Soccer Stadium. There will be grill food available for those in attendance.
