Islanders Fall Short To Bearkats On The Road

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi falls to Sam Houston State 66-64 in a nail-biter this Wednesday, led by Joe Kilgore's season-high 28 points. The Islanders contest against the hosting Bearkats was featured on ESPN3 and broadcast live via radio feed on the Islanders Digital Network powered by AEP Texas.
 
The Islanders started off slow with Kareem South scoring their first points of the night starting a run for lslanders. South's points were followed by shots from Joe Kilgore and Myles Smith. Kilgore capped off the first half with three straight jumpers, making it a three-point game going into halftime.


 
Corpus Christi came out a second half that mirrored the first, with a Sean Rhea layup putting the Islanders within a single possession of tying the game. Myles Smith hit a field goal to tie the game at 38 all at the 15-minute mark as the Islanders and Bearkats traded the lead 6 times in the second half alone. The Islanders nearly won the game on a last second shot by Kilgore. 
 
KEY MOMENT/PERFORMER
 
Senior team campaign Joe Kilgore scored a buzzer beater jumper to make it a one-possession game going into the second half. Kilgore started off slow but ended the night scoring 43 percent of the Islanders' points.
 
At the end of the second half, sophomore Kareem South scored a jumper with 21 seconds left in the game to bring the Blue and Green within a single possession.

• Joe Kilgore recorded a season-high of 28 points.
• Sean Rhea recorded a career-high 16-rebounds, putting him in a tie for eighth in the school record books for the most boards in a single game.
• Myles Smith scored 12 points, just three shy of his career-high 15.

The Islanders take on New Orleans for Homecoming on Saturday, February 10 at 7 p.m. on the Corpus Christi Athletic Club Court at the American Bank Center.
 
As a reminder, the annual Homecoming game is on Saturday, February 10th. There are plenty of festivities for family, alumni, and students to enjoy. The Women's game vs. New Orleans is at 2 PM in the American Bank Center. Following the game, the block party and tailgate will begin outside.
