Doubleheader Split on Wendesday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- Texas A&M Corpus Christi go 1-1 on Wednesday's doubleheader against Prairie View A&M. With the first match resulting in a 1-5 loss, the Islanders bounced back on the second game, overcoming the Panthers 8-0.

Game One
The Islanders trailed the Panthers 3-0 early in first inning after a 3 run homerun hit by Kaylar Ward-Flowers. Keagan Helson doubled to left field which lead to a run that was assisted by Kaylee Hoppens RBI on a double play to right field. Ashley Smith and Alexis Tovar both took the mound in the first game of the doubleheader.

KEY INNINGS
-Top of the 1st
>> Destinee Williams got an RBI on a single to left field, scoring Shelby Williams for a single run.
> >Kaylar Ward-Flowers moonshots a three run homer to left field for a trio RBI 

-Top of the 6th
>>Kelsey Coronado hit an RBI through the left side, scoring Destinee Williams for a single run.
>> Alyssa Garcia hit an RBI to left field to score Brianna Grays.

-Bottom of the 6th
>> Kaylee Hoppens hit an RBI to right field, scoring Keagan Helson.

Game Two
Islanders show strong signs of resiliency on the final match of Wednesday's doubleheader, as Johnson sparks up the Blue and Greens offense with their first run of the game late in the second. Kandace Johnson finished the game allowing 2 hits and no runs with a season high of 4 strikeouts.

KEY INNINGS
-Bottom of the Second
>> Pitcher Kandace Johnson started off the inning reaching first on an error by the third baseman and shortly after stealing second. Kandace Johnson and Kaylon Dunn scored this inning giving the Islanders the lead 2-0

-Bottom of the Third
>>Taelor Thomas bunted to catcher loading the bases advancing Destiney Diaz to third and Kayla Sheridan to second.
>> Kandace Johnson hit to the right side scoring Kayla Sheridan for an RBI

-Bottom of the Fifth
>> Keagan Helson, Kandace Johnson, and Kaylon Dunn scored to run rule the Panthers 8-0.
