Women's Basketball battles Texas A&M International on Saturday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- After wrapping up the South Texas Showdown with UT-Rio Grande Valley this past Tuesday, the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi women's basketball program (3-4, 0-0 Southland) continues the pre-Holiday Break five-game home stretch Saturday afternoon against Texas A&M International (0-8, 0-0 Heartland), tipping off with the Dustdevils at 2 p.m. at the Dugan Wellness Center. The Islanders defeated Texas A&M International last year by a 53-34 margin as then-sophomore Dalesia Booth notched a double-double, dropping 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the victory.

  • Royce Chadwick enters his seventh season leading Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and 35th overall year as head coach, sporting a 646-406 record.
  • The Islanders 19-win season last year marked Chadwick's best finish with A&M-Corpus Christi since his arrival in 2012.
  • The team sports three lone seniors: F Uri Jolivette, G Brianna Jackson and G Tasia Foman.
  • This year's roster is highlighted by four newcomers, as juniors Alexes Bryant and Arhianna Sims-Jackson transferred from junior colleges while freshmen Torrionna Nesbitt and Makinna Serrata signed on directly from high school.
  • This season's depth chart features 11 players from across the state of Texas, and one from each of the following: Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky and California.
  • The Islanders were picked fifth in the Southland Conference Preseason Poll.
  • Texas A&M-Corpus Christi returns four of last season's five starters, including senior F Uri Jolivette and juniors G/F Emma Young, G Dae Dae Evans and F Dalesia Booth.

After facing off against the Dustdevils on Saturday night, the Islanders continue their pre-Holiday five-game home stretch against Schreiner, hosting the Mountaineers on Dec. 14 at the Dugan Wellness Center. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi returns to action after the Holiday Break for its Southland Conference opener, traveling to Central Arkansas to battle the Sugar Bears on Dec. 31.
