Women's Basketball continues home stretch Friday, faces Schreiner

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Following a dominant 84-36 victory over visiting Texas A&M International this past Saturday, the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi women's basketball program (4-4, 0-0 Southland) shifts focus to the third of a five-game home stretch Friday evening against Schreiner University (0-8, 0-0 SCAC), tipoff set for 7 p.m. at the Dugan Wellness Center. Since the program's inception, the Islanders have faced Schreiner a grand total of two occasions, defeating the Mountaineers 124-58 near the close of the 2000-01 season and 73-44 just over two years ago (average margin of victory -- 47.5 points).

  • Royce Chadwick enters his seventh season leading Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and 35th overall year as head coach, sporting a 647-406 record.
  • The Islanders 19-win season last year marked Chadwick's best finish with A&M-Corpus Christi since his arrival in 2012.
  • The team sports three lone seniors: F Uri Jolivette, G Brianna Jackson and G Tasia Foman.
  • This year's roster is highlighted by four newcomers, as juniors Alexes Bryant and Arhianna Sims-Jackson transferred from junior colleges while freshmen Torrionna Nesbitt and Makinna Serrata signed on directly from high school.

The Islanders two-game stretch at the Dugan Wellness Center closes with Schreiner as the team packs up for a pair of doubleheaders with the men's basketball program on Dec. 18 and Dec. 20 at the American Bank Center, initially battling New Mexico State before wrapping up the pre-Holiday season with Texas Lutheran. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi returns to action after the Holiday Break for its Southland Conference opener, traveling to Central Arkansas to battle the Sugar Bears on Dec. 31.
