Texas Outguns Islanders

Red-hot Longhorns roll in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas –In the first of two meetings between Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas on the diamond this season, it was all Longhorns as they cruised to a 15-0 run-rule victory in seven innings.

The Longhorns (8-6) exploded early for 12 runs in the first two innings and did all their damage in the opening four frames. Texas racked up 15 hits including five doubles and a home run in the offensive onslaught.

Cole Carter (0-3) took the loss in the start after tossing 1 2/3 innings. Carter was tagged with 12 earned runs on 10 hits. Chris Glover relieved Carter and worked an inning.

Glover allowed a single run on two hits before being forced out of the game on a scary comebacker. Glover took a line drive back to the mound off the elbow and left the game.

Five different Longhorns recorded multiple RBI on the evening as Texas produced its best offensive night of the year. Austin Todd and Patrick Mathis led the attack with three RBI apiece.

The Islanders mustered four hits against a strong Longhorns staff. Brian Deaver, RJ Ruiz, Brett Burner and Harrison DiNicola each recorded singles for the Blue and Green.

Out of the bullpen, Chad Romere and Carter Lilly each worked scoreless innings. Lilly put up a strikeout in his one inning of work.

Nick Kennedy earned the start for the Longhorns and worked four scoreless innings allowing just one hit. Jon Malmin pitched a scoreless inning to earn the win in relief.

SOUTH TEXAS SHOWDOWN

The Islanders return to action this weekend at UTRGV as they battle the Vaqueros in a three-game set. A&M-Corpus Christi clinched the South Texas Showdown presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union earlier this week.
