CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored early and often while starter
Cole Carter dominated on the hill to carry the Islanders to a 9-1, series-evening victory Saturday afternoon at Chapman Field.
With the bats clicking on all cylinders, Carter (2-4) went to work on the mound going a career-long 8 innings. The right-hander also fanned a career-best 10 Demons in the stellar outing. Carter limited Northwestern State to just five hits, allowing his only run of the day in the eighth.
"There's a lot to like today," said head coach
Scott Malone. "We came out with our backs against the wall a little after losing on Friday. Obviously, it all starts on the mound – you want to get a good start and be engaged from the beginning. Just like last night we start putting up zeros, scoring early and building the lead. As well as they played last night you never get comfortable. I was really please with our guys and thought Cole was outstanding the whole game and kept them off balance."
For a second day in-a-row, the Islanders (8-15, 1-4) jumped out to an early advantage with a run in the first. The Blue and Green capitalized on a Northwestern State error in the inning as
Brett Burner singled home
Dalton Stark to open the scoring.
This time, the Islanders made the lead stick as Corpus Christi threw up three more the following frame. The Islanders would add a pair in the fourth and sixth before a single marker in the seventh to extend a 9-0 lead.
Dalton Stark led the Islanders at the plate with a 3-for-4 afternoon scoring twice and adding another pair of RBI. Along with Stark, four other Islanders had multi-hit days while Burner also added a pair of RBI.
At the bottom of the order,
Cam Boudreaux put up a 2-for-3 game with two doubles. Boudreaux scored three times on the day.
Nick Anderson joined the extra-base hit party with a triple in the fourth to score a run.
