HAMMOND, La. – A seventh inning home run by
Aspen Auger and an 11-strikeout performance by
Liz Carter were not enough for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team to overcome a two-run deficit to Southeastern Louisiana on Friday, as the Blue and Green fell 2-1.
Carter (4-9) fell on the wrong side of a tough-luck loss for the second consecutive outing, as the senior tossed a four-hitter. The Austin native kept the Islanders (5-16, 0-1) within striking distance by allowing two runs, one earned, and one walk.
Mariah Clay notched her first career multi-hit game, as the junior accounted for two of the Islanders' three hits.
Aspen Auger homered for the first time this season.
For the Lady Lions (10-15, 1-3), Rachel Hayes (4-6) earned the win with six scoreless innings and striking out seven.
Alley McDonald came in for the save attempt in the top of the seventh, but Auger's leadoff home run spelled a quick end to her day, before Kasey Nielsen closed out the contest.
