Headed to Houston Baptist

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Looking to jump back into the win column this weekend, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team visits Houston Baptist on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. tip.

The Islanders (8-13, 4-6) are in seventh place in the Southland Conference standings and sit one game out of fourth after falling to Abilene Christian on Wednesday night. Kassie Jones led the way for the Blue and Green, for the second consecutive game, with 18 points, but the Wildcats overcame a hot start by the Islanders to win 72-59.

SENIORS STEPPING IT UP
>> Against Nicholls and Abilene Christian, the senior class of Jones, Camesha Davis and Ashanti Plummer powered the Islanders with 30 points a night.
>> Jones led the team in scoring on both nights, while Plummer was a monster on the glass and in blocks with 8.5 rebounds per contest and five rejections.
>> Plummer racked up her first double-double of the year against ACU with 10 points and 10 boards.

MILESTONE MARKERS
>> Redshirt-junior Brittany Mbamalu is closing in on the school record for career 3-pointers with 16 makes from the perimeter separating her from Nicole Duncan's record (2000-03).
>> Davis needs just a pair of blocks to become just the third player in program history to record 100 swats in a career.
>> Jones has a chance to break the single-season free throw percentage record held by assistant coach Jasmine Shaw at 87-percent (2013-14). Jones is currently at 93-percent for the year.

COTTRELL CONFLICT
>> Redshirt-freshman Sydney-Anne Cottrell returns to her old stomping grounds this weekend. Her father Ron has been the head coach of the Houston Baptist men's basketball team since 1990.
>> The Islanders' Cottrell has seen limited minutes this season, but has been a perimeter threat with a 50-percent clip from deep. She hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer against Abilene Christian.

SERIES HISTORY
>> The Islanders and the Huskies meet for the ninth time with the overall series lead and record in Houston on the line tied at 4-4 and 2-2, respectively.
>> A&M-Corpus Christi opened the rivalry with three straight wins, but HBU has had the success as of late with three consecutive victories.
>> HBU topped the Islanders in the penultimate game of the 2015-16 season.

SCOUT SAYS
>> Houston Baptist has struggled through the 2016-17 campaign with a record of 4-15, 2-7 in the Southland Conference. The Huskies have dropped three games in a row on five occasions.
>> Lisa Zderadicka has paced the Huskies with a team-high 9.3 points per game and 11.3 points per league contest.
>> On the glass, HBU has been outrebounded by an average of 7.2 boards per game, despite Taylor Kollmorgen sitting 11th in the conference at 6.7 per outing.
