Islanders on ESPN3 Thursday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Wrapping up its program record seven-game road swing, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team will face Stephen F. Austin at the William R. Johnson Coliseum on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Thursday's game will be carried on ESPN3, while Doug Kesterson will have the call on the Islanders Digital Network.

The Islanders (4-9, 0-2) are coming off a pair of tough losses to New Orleans and Nicholls to open Southland Conference play this week. The Blue and Green shot 45-percent from the field against the Colonels on Monday, but could not overcome the 12 3-points from Nicholls, falling 74-54.

Camesha Davis has been the solid leader for the Blue and Green this season, topping the charts in scoring (9.1 ppg), field-goal percentage (.558), rebounding (7.2 rpg) and blocked shots (14). With her 10-point outing against Nicholls, she now has 30 10-point games in her career.

A&M-Corpus Christi has outrebounded opponents in eight contests this season and has a rebounding margin of +3.8. Despite the advantage on the glass, the Islanders are averaging 10.7 second-chance points.

After pounding the paint against Nicholls, the Islanders scored 30 points in the paint, the second-highest total this season. The Blue and Green is averaging 21.5 points per game in the lane.

Islanders head coach Royce Chadwick returns to Nacogdoches for the seventh time since leaving SFA in 2001. Chadwick skippered the Ladyjacks for seven seasons, amassing a record of 173-44, each of which ended in the NCAA Tournament.

Thursday will be the first of two meetings between the programs. Stephen F. Austin (11-2, 2-0) holds a 17-2 series lead, after sweeping the Blue and Green last year. Camesha Davis and Kassie Jones led the Islanders in scoring over the two contests, combining for 20 points.

This season, the Ladyjacks have consistently sat at the top of the league standings and are one of two teams to be 2-0 going into Thursday's outings. Taylor Ross, a First Team All-Southland member in 2015-16, ranks third in the conference in scoring at 17.9 points per game. The Islanders will have to take care of the ball on Thursday, as SFA sits third in the league with 12.1 steals per game.
