ACU Tops Islanders in Southland Opener 4-0

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer team opened Southland Conference play on Saturday night at the Dugan Soccer Stadium against Abilene Christian. A trio of first half strikes for the Wildcats (2-6-1) led the visitors to a 4-0 victory over the Islanders (0-8-0).

A&M-Corpus Christi fell behind early in the match when Leslie Snider pounced on a rebound in the fifth minute. Islanders starting goalkeeper Tatum Hightower dove to parry away a powerful free kick by Chloe Fifer, but the ball bounced to the top of the six-yard box where Snider was waiting.

A header off a corner and low driven shot in the 32nd and 43rd minutes, respectively, gave ACU a sizeable lead at the break. The visitors added their fourth in the 64th minute on a lobbed shot just under the crossbar from outside the box.

Second half goalkeeper Kendall Moody produced the most impressive play of the night. Wildcat forward Sophie Standifer weaved her way through the Islanders defense in the 85th minute, only to see the rookie out of San Antonio deny her breakaway attempts twice.

Abilene Christian outshot the Islanders 21-to-11, 11-to-4 on goal, for the match. A&M-Corpus Christi matched its season high in shots, tying an 11-attempt outing against North Texas on Aug. 26.

Hightower finished with three saves, while Moody came in to make four stops.
