CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Freshman Bjoern Adden won the decathlon and set a new school record in the event Friday at the Bobcat Invitational. The Hamburg, Germany native scored 6,157 points in the two-day competition.

Adden won four of the five decathlon events held on Friday, highlighted by a time of 15.75 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles and a mark of 4.19 meters in the pole vault. In day one of the competition, he won two of the five events.
Teammate Bryan Wersterfer placed second in the event with 5,443 points.
A few of the other members of the Islanders men's track & field team were in competition in San Marcos on Friday. Jan Anstett and Marek Spriesterbach placed 15th and 17th in the 1,500 meters, crossing the line in 4:07.02 and 4:08.07, respectively.
Ron Williams took 15th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.01 seconds, while Jordan Wright recorded a time of 15:38.61 to place 10th in the 5,000 meter run.
The Islanders' men's distance medley relay and 4x400 meter relay team competed in Austin at the Texas Relays. The DMR placed eighth overall in 9:59.93 and the 4x400 was 26th with a time of 3:19.15.
Sashane Hanson led the women's squad at the Bobcat Invitational with a fourth place finish in the high jump. She recorded the same height – 1.65 meters – as the second place performer, but just missed more attempts.
Olivia Williamson placed 12th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.40, while Cynthia Quiroga took 14th in the 5,000 meters. Quiroga crossed the line in 18:19.16 on Friday. Faith Williams ran the 400 meters in 1:00.32 to take 27th.
The Islanders will conclude the weekend with the final day of competition at the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos.
