Box Score 2 LAKE CHARLES, La. – The long ball was in effect on Friday, as McNeese State pelted three home runs in two games against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team at Cowgirl Diamond. The Islanders tallied three hits in a pair of run-ruled games, falling 12-1 and 8-0.

Game 1, Loss, 12-1
Liz Carter stepped into the circle after a pair of relief appearances in the midweek series against Texas State. The righty fell to 7-7 on the year, as Erika Piancastelli went 2-for-2 with a pair of homeruns and four RBI for the hosts.
A&M-Corpus Christi (11-14, 1-4) put a runner on base in the first and second inning, but Dani Tefft and Liz Carter could not progress further than first. Candice Hadd ended the fourth on first following a two-out single.
After scoring the opening run in the first inning, McNeese (18-6, 5-0) poured three consecutive multi-run innings. The Cowgirls picked up four runs, fueled by a three-run homer by Piancastelli.
Three more runs in the third spelled the end of Carter's day. The Austin, Texas, native finished her outing scattering nine hits, allowing seven earned runs and walking two. Colleen Bentke came on in relief in the fourth to surrender four runs, three earned, and a pair of walks.
Adriana Farris put the Islanders on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth. The Spring, Texas, native launched the first pitch of her at-bat over the right-field fence for her first career homerun.
Game 2, Loss, 8-0
Bentke returned to the circle in the second game with similar results to the opening contest. 4 1/3 innings of work from the College Station native produced eight hits and six earned runs, with four walks and one strikeout.
McNeese opened the scoring in the second inning with a Tori Yanitor shot to left to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
A trio of runs in the third, including a two-RBI single from Justyce McClain, gave the Cowgirls a firm 5-0 advantage. McNeese added three more runs in the fifth inning to close out the game.
Cowgirls starting pitcher Rachel Smith threw five hitless innings with two punchouts to improve to 5-1 on the year.

The Islanders and the Cowgirls wrap up their series on Saturday with a first pitch slated for noon.
