CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field teams hosted the Islander Open this weekend at the Dugan Family Track and Soccer Stadium. The women's team went 2-0 in dual meet competition, while the men went 2-1.

The women defeated UT-Rio Grande Valley 119-64 and topped Southland Conference foe Incarnate Word by a score of 103-87. The men won 101-61 over UT-RGV and 102-85 against Texas Southern, but fell 105-86 to Incarnate Word.
The men's squad won three individual titles on Saturday. Philipp Baar won the 3,000 meter steeplechase, setting a new school record with a time of 9:03.92. Daniel Guerrero took home first in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:59.16 and Fabian Lutz won the 5,000 meters in 15:59.21.
Logan Jorgensen and Ben Clark set new school records in their respective events. The former achieved the new program best in the pole vault, placing second with a mark of 4.70m. The latter placed fifth in the hammer throw with a new school record of 42.24m.
The Islanders women team won six individual events and took home the title in the 4x100 meter relay. Hannah McWilliams also set a new school record in the pole vault, winning the event with a mark of 3.70m.
Taylor Hawes won the 800 meters in a time of 2:18.88, Regina Salinas crossed the line in 18:43.26 to win the 5,000 meters and Amy Mendoza earned gold in the 10,000 meters with a time of 39:50.45.
The Islanders also won both hurdle events. Chloe Young won the title in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking in at 14.65 seconds, while Olivia Williamson took the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:06.42.
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field teams will continue the spring season Saturday, March 19 at the UTSA Texas Challenge Invitational.
