HOUSTON – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team could not find its rhythm on Thursday night, falling on the road to Rice 70-36.
The Islanders (4-5) jumped out of the gate quickly, making six of their first 10 shots. After scoring 15 points in the first quarter, the Blue and Green went cold from the field recording 21 points in the final 30 minutes of the game.
Rice (7-2) finished the night shooting 51.9-percent from the field with nine 3-pointers, while the Blue and Green shot 29.6-percent. The Owls also outrebounded the Islanders 40-26.
Defensively, the Blue and Green won the turnover battle by forcing 18 Owl turnovers.
Brianna Jackson notched her third game in double figures with 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Uri Jolivette added eight points and a team-high four rebounds.
A&M-Corpus Christi will wrap up its non-conference slate on Monday and Tuesday with the Battle on the Border Tournament, hosted by UT-Rio Grande Valley. The Islanders face UC-Santa Barbara on Monday at 4:30 p.m., before playing the return leg of the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union, on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
