AUSTIN, Texas - Several Islanders broke personal records as the prestigious Texas Relays come to a close.
Jackson Davis showed no nerve in the 400 hurdles to open things up for the Islanders. A sophomore, Davis is competing in his second Texas Relays and it showed as he broke a personal record by half a second in the event. He finished the race in 53.37 on his way to a 34th place finish in a field stacked with the best competition in the country.
Another Islander that showed great poise was freshman Logan Pittdman. Throughout the year he has continued to improve and today was no different. The Corpus Christi, Texas native shaved two-seconds off a personal-best time in the 1500 with a time of 3:58.77 for 13th.
On the women's side of things, senior Jasmine McCoy had a strong leadoff for the Islanders on the 4 x 800 relay team (Shanice Prendergast, Ashley Mills, Sha'Nique Spearman, McCoy) that took 10th place, finishing with a time of 9:22.59.
In the field events, senior Brandi Huff finished 14th in the javelin throw with a mark of 36.65 meters (120' 3'').
The teams willhead to Houston next weekend for the Bayou Classic.
