TEXAS RELAYS RESULTS | TRINITY RESULTS
AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore Ernestine Cray won the triple jump to lead the Islanders on day two of the 85th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Islanders men's and women's track and field teams competed in four events today in Austin.
"It's huge anytime you can win a section at the Texas Relays," Director of Track and Field Shawn Flanagan said. "The jumpers did very well today with marking season bests and we are working to get better in the relays."
The Islanders women's team opened the day in the 4x100 meter relay. The team of Ashley Rosebrough, Kassandrea Son, Cray and Shakelia Coleman placed fourth with a time of 47.13, which places in the top 10 Islanders records.
On the men's side, Cordarius Edmondson, Matt Youngblood, William Scott and David Carrillo teamed up in the 4x400 to start things off. The four put together a sixth-place finish, clocking a time of 3:16.43 which also places in the top 10 Islanders records.
Son also competed in the long jump and finished in sixth place with a season-best jump of 5.92m (19-05.25). Her mark ties for third in the records with her jump from the Cactus Cup set earlier this month.
Cray wrapped Saturday's events with a first-place finish in section B of the triple jump with a season-best distance of 12.65m (41-06.00). Her jump ranks second in the records book. She holds the record with a jump of 12.87m (42' 2 ¾") set back in 2011 at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
The Islanders will finish competition tomorrow in three events at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The women's 4x200 meter relay team will open competition for the Islanders at 12:35 p.m.
