AUSTIN On the final day of the Texas Relays, the Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi women's track and field team placed a pair
of runners in the top nine of the 1.500-meter run.
Junior Meghan
Lemke was seventh with a time of 4:40.36. Senior Lydia Kimeli was
two spots back in ninth. Kimeli stopped the clock with a time of
4:48.02.
The result highlights a strong week
of action for the Islanders.
Annie Ronoh began the week with a
second-finish in the wMomen's 5,000-meter run, which was the best
finish by an Islander athlete in an event at the prestigious meet.
Also on the first day, Hannah Maenius missed her record in the
800-meter run by less than a second to place 11th.
On Friday, Hickel Woolery had
the best finish in an "A" event for the men placing fifth in the
discus. Erik Burciaga missed a regional qualifying time in the
3,000-meter steeplechase by two seconds setting a new school record
in the process finishing sixth amongst collegiate and seventh
overall. Kassandrea Son ran a 0:12.07 which was the fastest time
school history using an automated timing device
The track teams
are off until April 12 when they visit Texas A&M-Kingsville for
the Battle of The Cacti.
