Josh Washington, who holds nearly every three-point shooting
record for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, signed a professional
contract with German basketball team Erdgas Ehingen. He becomes
the third player in school history to sign a professional
international contract.
The Lubbock, Texas native joins Michael Hicks and Brian Evans as
the only former Islanders to play overseas. Hicks, who plays
for Imola in the Italian league and Evans, who plays for CSU Sibiu
in Romania, are both currently active.
In his final year with the program, Washington averaged 12.8
points a game and ranked fifth nationally in three-point field goal
percentage at 47.6 percent. He also ranked in the top-50
nationally in three-point baskets made per game at 2.8. He was an
All-Southland Conference First Team selection.
Erdgas Ehingen is a second-division team in the Bundeliga.
International basketball teams tend to operate the same as overseas
soccer teams: The teams at the bottom of the first division are
demoted to the second-tier league the following season. The teams
at the top of the second division are moved to the No. 1 division
the following season.
