The Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi men set a school-record by winning its
seventh-straight game, and did it in convincing fashion, blowing
out
Texas State 90-42 to remain perfect in league play.
The 48-point
margin of victory is the highest this season as everyone on the
Islander roster scored at least one point, while four finished in
double-figures.
A&M-Corpus Christi is now 4-0 in league play and is the only
undefeated team in the Southland Conference.
Texas State's
Antwoine Blanchard scored the game's first points, hitting a
3-pointer just 30 seconds into the contest, but it would be the
only time the Bobcats would see a lead. The Islanders poured it on early and
often, using several runs of 10 points or more to distance
themselves the entire game.
After Blanchard's three, Josh Washington hit back-to-back
3-pointers that started a 25-5 run that all but closed the door on
the Bobcats. Washington hit
a game-high 15 points, all coming in the first half.
Texas State shot
just 26.8 percent from the game, marking the lowest by an Islander
opponent this year. The
Bobcats went cold, not hitting a field goal in nearly eight minutes
in the first half, missing 10-straight shots during that
stretch.
The Islanders
(13-4) continued to pour it on as they closed out the half with an
18-8 run that ended with a dunk by Chris Daniels with 17 seconds to
play in the first to close out the scoring in the first frame. He finished with eight points
and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Islanders shot
68 percent in the first half and led 45-18 going into the locker
room. Their torrid shooting
continued in the second half, hitting 58 percent from the field,
out-scoring the Bobcats 45-24 in the second half.
Texas State had
just two players hit more than one field goal with Brandon Bush
leading the team with 18 points, hitting 7-of-17 shots from the
field. Dylan Moseley was
the only other player with at least two field goals.
The Islanders will
try to keep their undefeated league mark in tact when they head to
Arlington to face Texas-Arlington Saturday at 7 p.m. in Texas
Hall.
