Dr. George Liras

Dr George N. Liras is board certified in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine. He currently serves as Head Team Physician for Islander Athletics and the Medical Director for the Athletic Training Graduate Program at TAMUCC. He is also the Sports Medicine Curriculum Director for the CHRISTUS Health/Spohn- Texas A&M Family Medicine Residency Program in Corpus Christi.

A native of Houston, Dr. George Liras grew up in Athens, Greece until he returned to Texas for his studies. After earning his medical degree and a master’s degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Liras completed his residency at CHRISTUS Health - Texas A&M University School of Medicine Family Medicine Residency program in Corpus Christi, TX. He then completed his sports medicine fellowship at UT Health Science Center in Houston, TX.

He first started being involved with Islander Athletics since 2016, during his residency training and he has been a Team Physician for all sports since 2020. He is also a ringside physician with USA Boxing, a Team physician for the Corpus Christi Ice Rays and a volunteer physician for Team USA.

Dr. Liras considers himself a health coach for his patients; his goal is to keep them healthy and active while helping them return to their favorite activities safely and efficiently.

In his spare time, Dr. Liras enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoys playing soccer and volleyball, traveling, fishing, and watching sports.
