Ashley Birdsong was elevated to Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations in August 2024.
Birdsong originally joined A&M-Corpus Christi as a Communications Assistant in January 2022 before transitioning into a Graduate Assistant later that year. She expanded her sport responsibilities to cover volleyball, women’s basketball, beach volleyball, and softball while a full-time graduate student working towards her Master’s in Strategic Communication.
During her last semester in her graduate program, Birdsong took over sport informations duties for all 16 Division I sports at A&M-Corpus Christi and ran the communications department by herself for nearly six months. Through this time, she oversaw the production of ESPN+ broadcasts, spearheaded all social media efforts across three platforms, handled team materials for three NCAA Tournaments, wrote all game stories and press releases, maintained and updated the official department website, maintained relationships with local media, and supervised 20-25 student workers.Â
Recognized for her commitment to A&M-Corpus Christi, Birdsong was nominated in March 2024 for the SEAS Rising Tide Program aimed to celebrate those who have focused on service excellence for the Islander Community and their dedication to the students of A&M-Corpus Christi.
In May 2024, she graduated from her master’s program with a 4.0 GPA before moving into a full-time media relations role at A&M-Corpus Christi in June 2024.Â
