Smith comes to the Island in 2017 after spending the previous four years playing under current Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Head Coach Craig Shaw, at Fort Hays State University. The Islanders' Volunteer Coach earned All-MIAA recognition for three consecutive years, including a First-Team designation and MIAA Co-Defensive Player of the Year honor in her senior season.

Smith collected seven goals and four assists while playing in the midfield at Fort Hays, gathering both an NSCAA All-Central Region First Team nod and D2CCA All-Central Region Second Team accolade during her college career.
