Phil Blackmar was named the Texas A&M – Corpus Christiassistant women’s golf coach in May 2012. He had previouslyserved as the team’s volunteer assistant coach. He is thehusband of head coach Carol Blackmar.

Blackmar is a former member of the PGA Tour and currently playson the Champions Tour. He posted three PGA Tour wins in his career,all in playoffs – the 1985 Canon Sammy Davis Jr.-GreaterHartford Open, 1988 Provident Classic and 1997 Shell Houston Open.He played in 19 majors in his time on tour, with his finestperformance a sixth-place finish at the 1997 PGA Championship.

In 2000, he walked away from the Tour and spent time as ananalyst and commentator for both USA and ESPN. He joined theChampions Tour in 2007, where he won the 2009 AT&T Championshipin San Antonio. He has posted seven top-10 finishes in hisChampions Tour career. He is currently still active on theChampions Tour while also serving as a televised analyst for theGolf Channel. 

Blackmar also served as an instructor with Hall of Fameinstructor Jim Flick and PGA teacher of the year Mike Malaska forNicklaus/Flick golf schools. Has been featured on several GolfChannel instructional shows with Jim Flick as well as instructedseveral PGA Tour professionals.

In his duties as assistant coach, Blackmar aids in recruitingand travel coordination in addition to everyday work with thestudent-athletes.

Blackmar is a 1980 graduate of the University of Texas, where hemet his future wife. The couple has four adult children and onegrandchild.
