Joni Stephens transitioned to Assistant AD for Compliance in Jan. 2022 after spending the previous three seasons as the Head Golf Coach at A&M-Corpus Christi. Stephens has over 20 years of experience working in collegiate athletics.

As the Head Golf Coach, Stephens made a significant impact with the Islander golf program. She concluded with a big 2021 campaign that saw the Islanders record two tournament wins and the highest finish at the SLC Championship in 10 years.

The Islanders started 2021 on a high-note with a second-place showing at their own tournament. They followed it up with a first-place finish at the UTRGV Invitational, which was the program's first tournament win since 2008-09. A&M-Corpus Christi also won the 2021 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship after three days of competition at TPC Sawgrass. The Islanders won by 28 strokes with a 928 score, and it marked ust the second time in school history and first since 2003-04 that the program won two tournaments in the same season.

A&M-Corpus Christi's fourth-place finish at the SLC Championship was its best since 2011. Additionally, the Islanders placed two student-athletes on the SLC All-Conference Teams for the first time in school history as Kellsey Sample and Lucie Charbonnier were both recognized on the All-SLC Third-Team. The Islanders also garnered an SLC All-Academic Second-Team honoree after Lucy Martinez submitted a cumulative 4.0 GPA.

Despite a shortened 2020 spring season, the Islanders continued to add to the record books, finishing second all-time in program history with a 308.46 single season scoring average. Senior Autumn Bynum became the program's all-time leader in career birdies with 211, set on the first day of the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational on Sept. 30, 2019. At the UTRGV Invitational on March 3, the Blue and Green shot a three round total of 905, the fifth lowest in team history for a 54 hole total. Throughout the fall and spring seasons, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi posted three Top-4 finishes including; the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational (Oct. 1), the Islander Classic (Feb. 25) and the UTRGV Invitational (March 3).

In her first season, A&M-Corpus Christi quickly turned the tide in 2019. The team set a program record with a 304.88 scoring average and 251 birdies. The team shot a school record 288 during the third round of the SHSU Bearkat Women's Invitational on Oct. 2, 2018, besting the previous team record of 292 by four strokes. By the end of the year, the team had five of the top-12 all-time single round scores in program history.

Stephens was hired as the Islanders head golf coach on June 25, 2018, bringing over 28 years of teaching and coaching experience to the Islanders. Before arriving on the Island, Stephens spent 16 years as a Division I head golf coach at three different institutions. She has an LPGA Class B Certification.

At ULM, Stephens team improved their Golfstat Ranking from 226 to 179 in three semesters with a scoring average improvement of 322 to 309.8.
