Carlos Trujillo

Carlos Trujillo joined the Islanders golf program in Feb. 2022 just after the Texas State Invitational. Since being named the team’s Assistant Golf Coach he helped lead the team to five top-five finishes out of six events the team competed in.

Trujillo helped coach two student-athletes to their first career individual wins, including at the Islander Classic where the Islanders finished third and at the PGA Works Collegiate Championship where the Islanders won the event for the second year in a row. The PGA Works Collegiate Championship marked Trujillo's first win as assistant coach at A&M-Corpus Christi.

The team shot a record-low 54-hole total of 886 at the Islander Classic under Trujillo’s assistance, then tied for first at the UTRGV Invitational. Although he missed the event due to the passing of his father, Trujillo prepared the team for a runner-up finish at the Stetson Babs Steffens Invitational. 

At the Southland Conference Tournament, A&M-Corpus Christi matched its best performance at the tournament since 2011 with a fourth-place finish.

Prior to A&M-Corpus Christi, Trujillo was the 1st Assistant and Golf Teaching Professional at the Corpus Christi Country Club where his golf students of all ages found success. He helped the; 2016 Men’s Club Champion with his alignment and swing path, 2018 Women’s Club Champion on the putting green, 2019 Women’s Club Champion with her sand play, 2019 Men’s Net Club Champion find more fairways from the tee, 2020 Men’s Net Club Champion with his very first golf lesson to the Net championship within two years. The 2017, 2018, and 2021 Boy’s Junior Club Champions and 2021 Girl’s Club Champion were all long-time students of his.

Trujillo was the golf instructor for five Drive Chip and Putt participants who progressed to the regional levels of that competition. The Corpus Christi Independent School District; Middle School Girl’s Champion were his students for four consecutive years, 2020 Boy’s District Champion was his student, 2021 and 2022 Girl’s District Champion is still his student and vying for a third consecutive championship, 2019 - 2022 Girl’s Golf Newcomer of the Year were all his students. Since 2014 Trujillo’s students and STPGA Junior Golfers of all ages have been winners at countless events throughout south Texas and beyond. 

A retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant of 30 years, Trujillo played competitively at base and inter-service events where he anchored almost every squad he was a member of during his military career. Trujillo experienced golf at several bucket-list venues throughout the world while serving our country.

While still in uniform, he began working towards his post-AF career in the golf industry by completing Golfsmith’s Golf Club Technician and Custom Club Fitter certification in 2002. He attained his first teaching license in 2008 through the World Golf Teachers Federation and will complete the PGA’s Class A requirements during this Islander season. Ever a student of the game, he strives to learn something new every day to add to his golf instruction repertoire.
