The three-time reigning Southland Conference Coach of the Year, Gayle Stammer has continued to spearhead record-breaking seasons since being announced as the head coach in 2017. 

Stammer led the Islanders to three-peat the SLC Tournament and their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament following the 2024 season. It came after defending their regular season championship where the Islanders went undefeated yet again in conference play. Stammer has never lost a regular season dual against a Southland opponent, hoisting a perfect 33-0 record.

The Islanders have continued to compete alongside the best in the nation under Stammer, topping #16 FAU in 2024 for the program's highest ranked win. They also graced the AVCA Top-20 themselves for the first time in program or conference history, ranking #20 nationally for six weeks during the 2024 season. 

Not only did the team advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2023, Stammer guided the Islanders to a 3-0 sweep over UT-Martin in the opening round to post the first postseason win in program history. The Islanders are the only Southland team to win at the NCAA Tournament. It helped capped a 25-10 season, which was the best record in program history at the time before they topped it in 2024 with the 28-10 record.

She developed Kristin Bobay who was named the 2023 SLC Freshman of the Year and Chloe Tome who earned the 2023 SLC Newcomer of the Year award. Stammer then brought in Cassie Dodd who secured the 2024 SLC Freshman of the Year honor to keep the accolade with the Islanders. 

2022 Southland Conference Coach of the Year, Stammer coached the Islanders to their first-ever championship by winning the SLC Tournament. She took the Islanders to the NCAA Tournament, which was another first in program history.

All five pairs in 2022 earned All-Conference honors for A&M-Corpus Christi, which was the highest ranked team and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament for the second year in a row. Stammer's team won six consecutive SLC Pair of the Week awards, including four from her top flight of Giuliana Poletti Corrales and Brooke Pertuit.

Stammer coached Poletti Corrales and Brooke Pertuit to a No. 12 ranking nationally in the final PABLO rankings of the regular season and finished the year with a 24-9 mark. It included wins over No. 2 TCU, No. 4 Florida State, No. 6 LSU and No. 17 Arizona. They went on to earn an AVCA Top Flight Award.

The Islanders were a perfect 11-0 against SLC opponents in 2022 and 20-1 over the last two seasons.

A former professional beach and indoor player, Stammer brought over 30 years of volleyball experience to The Island University as a player and coach. She boasts an extensive background as a head coach at several levels ranging from junior high to Division II and III programs.

In 2021, she coached the Islanders to the championship match in the first-ever SLC Tournament. Stammer had A&M-Corpus Christi ranked the highest of any team in the conference in the PABLO Team rankings to earn the No. 1 seed.

Stammer coached the Islanders to a 7-0 record in the regular season against SLC opponents. Five of those seven matches were 5-0 sweeps. Additionally, the Islanders claimed a conference-best five SLC Pair of the Week awards, and four pairs earned SLC All-Conference honors.
 
Stammer brought over a decade of experience on the sand. Prior to A&M-Corpus Christi, Stammer coached for the American Volleyball Alliance (AVA) and Absolute Volleyball Club. With the AVA, she coached indoor teams to play in the prestigious European Global Challenge and tour across the globe. Stammer also directed beach clinics in Italy and North Carolina for the AVA.
 
Stammer stood as a coach for the nationally ranked 14 and 18-under Absolute Volleyball Club on the indoor circuit as well as the Technical advisor for all 25 AVC teams and mentored approximately 20 coaches.
 
While with Absolute, she also led summer doubles clinics on the sand with an emphasis on serve receive, offense and serving.
 
From 2010-2016, she led the indoor program at Dominican University of California, helping the Penguins transition from NAIA to Division II. Stammer's teams excelled academically, winning the Pac West Academic Achievement Award each season while also posting the best GPA at Dominican in 2015-16.
 
Stammer has also had stops at Lewis & Clark College and Pacific University at the collegiate level while also helping establish the prestigious Main Beach Volleyball Club in Aptos, Calif. She was the head coach and co-founder of Main Beach, helping the club to a 2007 18U Junior Olympics Gold Medal and the best record in team history.
 
As a player, Stammer spent three years in the Italian Professional League before returning to the states and focusing on beach volleyball. For 13 years, Stammer played on the professional beach circuit including time on the AVP Tour.
