Bringing experience as both a Division I softball player and coach, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program announced the hiring of Roxsanna "Roxy" Segura as an Assistant Coach.

A Laredo, Texas native, Segura comes to The Island after her first stint as an assistant softball coach at Southern University where she also competed on the team from 2019-22. While in Louisiana, she assisted in networking and all aspects of the recruiting process as well as coordinating practice plans and skill development.

As a student-athlete, Segura competed at Trinity Valley Community College under current Islanders head coachÂ
Kathleen Rodriguez from 2017-19. While there, she was named the 2019 Outstanding Athlete of the Month and earned NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete honors after completing her associate degree in liberal arts with a 4.0 GPA.

Segura then transferred to Southern University in 2019 to compete at the Division I level and finish out her athletic career. Segura saw her batting average increase each year and finished her career starting 87 games, batting .247 and a slugging percentage of .325. In the field, she finished with a .907 fielding percentage on 289 chances. In the 2021 season she received preseason 1st team short stop and finished her last season in 2022 by earning the All-SWAC Tournament Team with a .500 batting average. She was also named Most Valuable Player and earned the Makeda Excellence Award in 2022.

Segura graduated from Southern University with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2021 before earning her master's in business administration in 2022 while playing out her last year of athletic eligibility.
