CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field program earned a notable recognition for its work in competition and in the classroom on Monday afternoon, as it was announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) that both the men's and women's squads were named All-Academic Teams for the 2026 season.
In addition, three different Islanders were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes, with those being
Jordan Bowling for the men and
Breyunna Dowell and
Natalia Rankin-Chitar for the women.
In order to be eligible for USTFCCCA All-Academic status, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the team must have been at a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, which included the most recent grading period. For the Islanders, the men posted a mark of 3.07, while the women came in even higher at 3.36.
On the individual side, athletes must have recorded a 3.25 cumulative GPA while also finishing in the top 96 in any championship individual event during indoor season or participating in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships during outdoor season. All three A&M-Corpus Christi athletes reached the latter qualification by competing at the NCAA West First Round in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with Bowling doing so in the javelin throw, Dowell in the hammer throw and Rankin-Chitar in the shot put. As for the former, Bowling recorded a 3.29 cumulative GPA in his Kinesiology major, Dowell posted a 3.45 GPA in her Psychology major, and Rankin-Chitar finished with a 3.38 cumulative GPA in her Kinesiology major. All three were also named to the Southland Conference All-Academic Team at the conclusion of the season.
